[Also in Division F2] The eccentricity of a non-rotary ring 91, tracked by spring-pressed vanes 96 on a rotor 95 of a pump for supplying pressure liquid to actuate clutch and brakes in an automatic transmission on a motor vehicle, is adjusted by the action of delivery pressure on a piston 100, in opposition to an adjustable spring 98, to maintain constant delivery pressure. In Fig. 12D, (not shown), the spring 98 is replaced by a second piston, smaller than 101 and subject directly to delivery pressure, which latter feeds the system main through an orifice, the downstream pressure of which acts on the larger piston so that pump eccentricity vanes with the pressure-drop across the orifice and hence system flow.</p> |
