Verfahren zur kontinuierlichen Veresterung von Dicarbonsaeuren mit Alkoholen

The dicarboxylic acid (1 mole), alcohol (1-2 mole) and 35 wt.% water (rel. to total org. mat) are homogenised. Using the heat energy of the water-alcohol vapours, obtained from the esterification, the reaction mixture is heated to 240-310 degrees C. The esterification and subsequent condensation are carried out at this temp opt. with the addn of ether inhibitors and with a redn of the reaction press. Pref. terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol are used. Pref. 1.1 to 1.5 mole alcohol is used per mole acid. Used as intermediates in prepn of film and fibre forming linear polyesters. Gives higher conversion levels, allows cheapter appts. ether inhibitors are not necessary is quicker and the quantity of esterification and polycondensation prodn is improved.
