The inflatable seat belt (1) has a shoulder belt (2) and a lap belt (3) connected by a detour point with the shoulder belt, and a gas producer (7) for filling the seat belt. The ignition of the gas producer takes place in a time from maximal fifteen millisecond after detection of an accident. An independent claim is included for a method for blowing an inflatable seat belt for a motor vehicle.
