1323140 Moulding ceramic articles NETZSCH MASCHINENFABRIK Gebr 9 Nov 1970 [8 Nov 1969] 53148/70 Heading B5A Apparatus for moulding and drying ceramic articles includes two shaping machines 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, endless conveyers, 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and 16 16<SP>1</SP> extending from one machine to the other in two parallel lines, a drier 18 in which a number of elongated trays 44 each carrying a number of moulds circulate such that each tray in turn is brought to a position between the lines of conveyers, and means for shifting a row of empty moulds from each tray to the conveyers 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and a row of full moulds from the conveyers 16, 16<SP>1</SP> to the tray. The endless conveyers in the same line move in opposite directions. At a charging station 8, discs 22, 22<SP>1</SP> of ceramic are cut from extruded rod and placed manually on conveyers 10, 10<SP>1</SP> supplying them to turntables 24, 24<SP>1</SP> rotatable in 90 degree steps and carrying plates 26, 26<SP>1</SP> against which a ceramic disc is pressed by the upward movement of the end 28, 28<SP>1</SP> of the conveyers 10, 101 by a drive 30, 301. The turntables 24, 24<SP>1</SP> overlap turntables 34, 34<SP>1</SP> having five equidistant moulds 36, and each squeezed disc is dropped on to a mould and shaped. Gripper arms 38, 38<SP>1</SP> reciprocate to transfer shaped articles on the moulds from the turntables 34, 341 to the conveyer 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, and empty moulds 36 on the conveyer 14, 14<SP>1</SP> to the turntables. The means for transferring the moulds to and from the trays comprises a reciprocatory carriage 54, Fig. 3, supporting a vertically reciprocable pusher 56 with rows of rollers 58, 60 which engage the empty moulds on the trays and the filled moulds on the conveyer 16, 16<SP>1</SP> respectively. If one shaping machine fails the two conveyers in each line may be driven in the same direction to provide two endless conveyers driven in opposite directions; the shifting means may be arranged to shift either the whole length of moulds on a tray in one direction to an appropriate line of conveyers or the shifting means is divided into sections co-operating with different lengths of a tray and driven in opposite directions to feed moulds simultaneously on to conveyers in different lines. |
