The mechanism (1) has a suspension unit for suspension of a shower curtain (2) that forms a splash guard plane in an extracted condition. Another suspension unit extends parallel to and at a distance from the former suspension unit. An arrangement has two spaced apart parallel rods (10, 11) forming the suspension units. A part of the mechanism forming the latter suspension unit is pivotable about a horizontal axis in a mounted condition from a position to another position. One of the rods (10) is located inwardly with respect to a bath tub (9), in the former position.
