Self-damping calender roller incorporating means - for damping vibrations and adjusting load for pressure

Non-rotating, load-transmitting means (diametrally positioned slide shoes) are arranged between the (non-rotating) axle and the rotating jacket of a calender roller, for engagement with the inner surface of the jacket (across its width) in the zone/s of the pressure nip/s formed between adjacent rollers. Load is supplied to the slide shoes by pref. hydraulic means. A lubricating film is maintained between the inner wall of the jacket and the shoes by circulating lubricant through the roller jacket.
