1316615 Programmed control of textile machines E MAYER [trading as MAYER & CIE] 2 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57152/70 HeadingG3N [Also in Division D1] An electric pattern attachment for a multisystem circular knitting machine having a revolving needle cylinder and electromagnetically actuated selector members responsive to a knitting pattern programme carrier, incorporates a mechanical gear for co-ordinating the movement of the needle cylinder with the reading of the programme carrier. The programme carrier can be in the form of a tape or a plugged matrix and control the selector members through pattern repeat stores of an intermediate store. As shown, the mechanical co-ordinating switchgear comprises a driving shaft 301 is coupled to the needle cylinder, not shown, so that 1 revolution is equal to the spacing for one knitting system and drives, through a differential gear 305, a shaft 307 bearing a disc 311. The disc 311 carries on its periphery binary coded information, relating to the pattern repeat width, which is read by a photo-electric scanner 312. The shaft 307, through a reduction gearing 308, drives a shaft 309 bearing a disc 321 carrying peripheral binary coded information, related to the knitting system sequence, which is read by a photo-electric scanner 322. At the end of the knitting system sequence the rotation of the shaft 307 is inhibited for half a revolution, to compensate for the needle gates, by the rotation of the planetary cage of the differential 305 by a Maltese cross mechanism 343, driven from the shaft 301 through gearing 345, engaged by a lever 347 operated by a control cam 346 on the shaft 309. When a stationary fixed pattern store is used, additional geared programme discs 331, 332 can be provided to control the use of two knitting colours. In a modification, for use when the pattern repeat width, in terms of stitch wales, exceeds the number of needles two of each of the programme discs 311, 321, are provided and inter-connected by gearing. |
