The maintenance tool for a metal inert gas welding burner having a nozzle holder (12) in which a flow contact tube (14) is inserted, comprises a tubular cylindrical base body with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, a holding device arranged close to the outlet opening, an internal contour having an internal cross section, and an initial section that extends itself in a middle section of the cylindrical base body. The outlet opening has an interior contour section that corresponds to an external contour of the flow contact tube. The maintenance tool for a metal inert gas welding burner having a nozzle holder (12) in which a flow contact tube (14) is inserted, comprises a tubular cylindrical base body with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, a holding device arranged close to the outlet opening, an internal contour having an internal cross section, and an initial section that extends itself in a middle section of the cylindrical base body. The outlet opening has an interior contour section that corresponds to an external contour of the flow contact tube. The base body comprises inlet sections extending itself by the inlet opening in the tube interior, where the inlet section is formed as a cutting tool. The inlet section flows over a step rejuvenating in its interior diameter in a middle section of the base body and an annular collar is provided on an external circumference of the base body coplanar to the step. The holding device comprises two or more radial gripping sections extending itself by the base body. The internal cross-section comprises circumcised circle on two sides turned to each other to a circular segment so that the straight sides of the segment extend itself along a length-axis of the base body in its interior and terminates the initial section of the step. The initial section has a length that corresponds to a length of the section of the flow contact tube extending itself from the nozzle holder. The initial section formed as cutting tool is a drill bitt, which has diagonally passing discharge slit with cutting edges. An independent claim is included for a method for the maintenance of a metal inert gas welding burner.
