The method involves superimposing an interference signal (S-si) on a usage signal (Si) for filtering, where the predictive filter coefficients are generated for reconstruction of the interference signal. The predictive filter coefficients are adapted from the filtered usage signal (S-ni). The reconstructed interference signal is regenerated at a predictive input (E) of the adaptive predictive filter (2). An independent claim is included for a circuit arrangement for detecting and cancellation of a narrowband interference signal.
