PURPOSE: A terminal for playing contents and a method for playing contents are provided to automatically reproduce contents in a user-preferable environment according to content type when reproducing certain content. CONSTITUTION: A playback environment monitor(106) monitors a reproduction environment depending on content type, and an environment information collecting unit(108) collects the environment information near the terminal. A preferred playback environment setting unit(110) sets up a preferable reproduction environment by using the environment information. When content reproduction is requested through a user interface(102), a content reproduction controller(112) confirms a content type and sets the content reproduction environment.
