PURPOSE: An image display apparatus and a method of driving an image display apparatus are provided to prevent a leakage current in a write transistor by maintaining a source voltage of a driving transistor high during a standby state. CONSTITUTION: A display unit comprises a pixel circuit. A signal line driving circuit outputs a driving signal to a signal wire. A scanning line driving circuit outputs the driving signal and the write signal to the scanning line. The signal wire and the scanning line are supplied to the display unit. The pixel circuit comprises a light emitting device, a driving transistor, a storage capacitance, and a write transistor. The driving transistor drives the light emitting device. The storage capacitance keeps a gate-source voltage. The write transistor sets a terminal voltage of the storage capacitance as the voltage of the signal wire.
