PURPOSE: A commonable earthing device for a welding machine and a control method thereof are provided to automatically perform a carbon dioxide welding work and a stud welding work using a robot. CONSTITUTION: A commonable earthing device(20) for a welding machine is composed of a base plate(21), first and second earth electrodes(ET1,ET2), a change cylinder(23), first and second connecting electrodes(CT1,CT2), a change sensor, and a change valve(50). The first and second earth electrodes are installed in one side and the other side of the base plate through electrode brackets, respectively. The change cylinder is installed between the first and second earth electrodes. The first and second connecting electrodes are installed in one end and the other end of the actuating rod of the change cylinder, respectively. The change sensor senses the position of the first connecting electrode.
