PURPOSE: A method and a device for obtaining an encryption key for providing a paid channel are provided to enable a user to always watch a bought paid channel when the paid channel is normally bought. CONSTITUTION: A terminal(10) buys a paid channel, receives the minimum and maximum encryption key ID values and transmits them to a smart card. If a watching request for the paid channel is generated, the terminal extracts the encryption identification value and a TS(Time Stamp) value from the latest STKM(Short Term Key Message) and transmits them to the smart card. If valid notification is received from the smart card, the terminal extracts and obtains the encryption key from the STKM.
