A bearing 10 has sliding surfaces 22, 23 which are made of a material capable of forming a wear resistant oxide film. The device is arranged to retain any wear debris produced between the sliding surfaces 22, 23. The sliding surfaces may mutually rotate and are preferably arranged one within the other. Each sliding surface 22, 23 may be made of a cobalt based, nickel based, iron based or silicon containing alloy which is able to form oxides. Preferably the surfaces are made of a superalloy. Methods for operating and making such devices are also claimed. There is also an independent claim for a turbo charger bearing, the turbine being retained in the bearing housing by means of at least one pin. |
