PURPOSE: A shared update system using a set top box and a method thereof without operating additional system are provided to perform sharing update management without network without equipping network device by using the set top box. CONSTITUTION: A shared update device(200) using a set top box and a method thereof without operating additional system is as follows. The set top box obtains the file version information. The user message in which the set top box includes the file version information is generated in the system. The set top box transmits the user message to the contents providing server. The contents providing server transmits the update file to the set top box by the decision result. The set top box transmits the update file.
