The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of bile esters derivatives of general formula (I), in which R1 is H or OH; R2 is H, alpha -OH or beta -OH and R3 is a straight or branched C1-C4 alkyl group or a benzyl group. The process uses either L-glutamic acid hydrochloride (II) or L-glutamic acid as starting material, according to the following Scheme 1.
