1,195,015. Engine speed governing. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Sept. 14, 1967 [Sept. 23, 1966], No. 42514/66. Heading G3P. A positive-displacement pump a supplies fuel to an engine via the annular gap b<SP>1</SP> around a piston c<SP>1</SP> and the latter is positioned by the pressure drop there across to control a by-pass valve k to maintain the engine speed constant at a value set by needle h controlling a bleed by-pass of the piston. The piston expands in response to increasing fuel temperature to reduce the gap to maintain the pressure drop independent of the temperature. A baffle (Z) may be positioned on the piston rod downstream of the piston to dissipate kinetic energy of the fuel. In a modification, the gap is replaced by an orifice controlled by a temperatureresponsive needle. |
