<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that can suppress the occurrence of display failures such as afterimages or stain-like irregularities with respect to both of transmission and reflection display, and further can achieve display of wide view angle in the transflective liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is the transflective liquid crystal display device of vertical alignment mode with a multi-gap structure. A pixel electrode 31 has a plurality of island shaped portions 31a to 31c in dot areas, and connections 31d, 31e which electrically connect the adjacent island shaped portions 31a to 31c to each other. The two island shaped portions 31b, 31c among the plurality of the island shaped portions 31a to 31c are arranged at the transmission display area T, and the rest of the island shaped portion 31a is arranged at a reflection display area R. The device is configured such that a boundary step area N, where the thickness of the liquid crystal layer varies successively, and the connection of the pixel electrode 31 are arranged so as to be overlapped in plane. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
