Disclosed is an asymmetric binuclear metal complex represented by the general formula: (L1)2M1(BL)M2(L2)2(X)n [wherein M1 and M2 independently represent a transition metal and may be the same as or different from each other; L1 and L2 independently represent a multidentately coordinatable chelate-type ligand, which are different from each other, provided that two L1's may be different from each other and two L2's may also be different from each other; BL represents a bridging ligand having at least two cyclic structures each containing a hetero atom, wherein the coordinating atoms coordinating to M1 and M2 are the hetero atoms contained in the cyclic structures; X represents a counter ion; and n represents the number of counter ions required for the neutralization of the charge of the complex]. The binuclear metal complex can be isolated by adjusting the pH value of a solution to a value higher than 2.5. The binuclear metal complex can be used as a dye, and enables to provide a photoelectric conversion element or photochemical battery having high photoelectric conversion efficiency and durability. |
