1,198,929. Iminated copolymer emulsions. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 9 May, 1968 [9 May, 19671. No. 22128/68. Heading C3P. Aqueous emulsions of copolymers of an unsaturated carboxylic acid which have been iminated with an alkylene imine are rendered colour-stable by the addition of an ammonia derivative having two free hydrogen atoms bonded to a nitrogen atom. The copolymer is preferably obtained from (a) vinyl acetate; (b) as acid monomer acrylic, methacrylic, crotonic, maleic, fumaric or itaconic acid or methyl monomaleate and optionally (c) ethylene, ethyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate or a vinyl ester of a Versatic acid (Registered Trade Mark). Preferred imines are ethylene and propylene imine and the ammonia compound is preferably added before the imination. Specified ammonia compounds are hydrazine, hydroxylamine, thiosemicarbazide, unsym. dimethyl hydrazine, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and semicarbazide hydrochloride. A pigment may be added. |
