In a plasma display panel whose screen size is made larger and higher definition, a first ramp waveform voltage rising from a potential (Vi1) toward a potential (Vi2) is applied to scanning electrodes (SC1 to SCn) in order to stably generate a writing discharge in the initialization period of at least one subfield (first SF) of one field period. A second ramp waveform voltage is also applied to the scanning electrodes (SC1 to SCn) that allows the waveform voltage to immediately drop when it rises from a base potential toward a predetermined potential (Vers) and reaches the predetermined potential (Vers) at the end of the sustain period of each of the subfields (first SF, second SF,...). |
