Brake shoes for heavy vehicles are made by hot bending T-sections into a circular arc about a transverse axis. To prevent the detrimental formation of wrinkles in the web, two additional opposing hydraulic powered tools are brought to bear on each side of the web. At the end of bending, before the tools are moved, water is fed through them to the surface of the section to quench and harden it. The section thereby retains its shape and further machining is avoided. For double T-sections, a third tool is forced between the two webs during forming.
|
