<p>Copolyamides consists of 10 - 50 mol.% of hydantoin ring-contg. units of formula -HN-X-HY-Y-Z-NH-OC-Ar-CC-, and 90 - 50 mol.% of units -HN-Ar'-NH-CO-Ar-CO-. Z is a single bond or the grp. -Hy-X:; X and Y are the same or different and are divalent, opt. alkyl- or halogen-substd. aromatic residues pref. (condensed) rings linked via a single bond or bridging group. Hy is a divalent hydantoin ring. (where R' and R" are H or C1-4 alkyl; Ar is an aromatic residue; Ar' is a divalent residue consisting of m- or p-phenylene or several aromatic rings linked via the carbonamide grouping, or the residues: The claimed copolyamides are soluble in polar org. solvents.
