PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method of driving the same are provided to heat of a data driver by reducing current consumption 50% as much as possible. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display is composed of an LCD panel, a data driver(140), a control circuit(148), and a precharging unit(150). The LCD panel charges a liquid cell connected with the same data line with a pixel data and displays it. The data driver operates the data line of the LCD panel, and the control circuit generates the precharge control signal by comparing the most significant bit of previous pixel data to the data line i-th horizontal period and the most significant bit of current pixel data to the data line i+1-th horizontal period. The precharge control signal keeps the data line with the previous data for the percharge period according to precharge control signal.
