PURPOSE: A discharge lamp is provided to suppress the generation of the exfoliation of a metal material or a solder layer. CONSTITUTION: A discharge lamp include a glass bulb(1), a metal material(31), a solder layer(32). The metal material is covered and installed in the glass bulb. The solder layer is interposed between the metal material and the glass bulb. The glass bulb and the solder layer are not fixed. The compression distortion is formed in a circumference direction of the glass bulb. The stress value of the compression distortion is between 6kgf/cm^2 and 40 kgf/cm^2. The low metal material including the low adhesion with the solder layer is used in the solder layer.
