1343906 Respirator MEDICOR MUVEK 6 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 13559/71 Heading A5T A respirator comprises a bistable fluidic element 10 of the wall effect type having a bifurcated passage 12 with a respiratory branch 12a connectable to a patient and an exhaust branch 12b open to the atmosphere separated by a wedge-shaped member 1, an inlet nozzle 16, a mixing injector 18 for supplying oxygen from a pressure source and diluting it with air drawn in from the atmosphere through a tranverse air inlet 20a and a passage 24 disposed such that a line joining point 2 of the wedge-shaped member 1 with a point 5, at which the wall of the passage 24 remote from the nozzle 16 terminates at one wall of the exhaust branch 12b, lies substantially at right angles to the surface 6 of the wedge-shaped member 1 which defines the opposite wall of the branch 12b. During exhalation when air is withdrawn from the branch 12a, the passage 24 provides escape for the surplus of gas coming from the injector 18 and that from the lungs of the patient. When the lungs of the patient are empty a depression in the gas pressure is created in branch 12a and air flows into passage 24 from the atmosphere causing the gas from the injector 18 to switch to passage 12a. |
