1298531 Cobalt-containing accelerators for polyester resin CINCINNATI MILACRON CHEMICALS Inc 19 Jan 1971 [31 March 1970] 2573/71 Heading C3R and C3P [Also in Division C2] Cobalt (II) halide azine complexes of the general formula in which R 1 and R 4 are hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, haloaryl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, furyl or tetrahydrofuryl; R 2 and R 5 are alkyl, aryl, haloaryl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, furyl or tetrahydrofuryl, or R 1 R 2 C and R 4 R 5 C cycloalkylidene radicals; R 3 is a tetravalent saturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical; n is 0 or 1 as X is halogen, are used as curing agents or accelerators for drying alkyl resins or oxidizable olefinic polymers. Examples are given of the use of the azine complexes in the polymerization of (a) styrene modified polyester resin (Exs. 7, 8, 9 and 12) and (b) an alkyd test paint formulation consisting of an alkyd resin containing 63% soya oil and 23% phthalic anhydride and optionally titanium dioxide (Exs. 10 and 11). |
