The device has a signal transformer (14) with a primary winding to receive a primary signal (SP) representative of an input signal (SI). Switching units (16, 31) e.g. electronic interrupter and field-effect transistor, and diodes (32) clip the input signal and provide the primary signal to the winding. A controlling unit (17) controls the units and comprises an input receiving control signals (SC) during switching periods and an output electrically isolated from the input, where the output is connected to the switching units to control clipping of the primary signal during the periods. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a voltage trigger comprising a processing unit (2) an electrical circuit breaker comprising control mechanism.
