PURPOSE: A user input device for controlling an image display device and a method thereof are provided to maximize the user's convenience by quickly changing a channel/volume. CONSTITUTION: A user input device(220) for controlling an image display comprises the first input unit(221), a second input unit(222) and a controller(223). The first input unit receives a command for performing a function which controls an image display device(210) in case a discontinuous signal is received. The second input unit is attached to the first input unit and receives a command for performing a function which controls the image display device in case a continuous signal is received.
