摘要 1254542 Coating with metals by hot dipping: oxidizing niobium alloy surfaces PLESSEY CO Ltd 17 Feb 1969 [20 Feb 1968] 8319/68 Headings H1A A5 and A4D A Nb-Sn super-conducting wire or tape is made by first giving at least a surface layer of a Nb alloy (up to 5% Zr) wire or tape a content of ozygen between 500 and 5000 p.p.m., coating with tin by hot dipping, and finally heating. The oxygen may be added by heating either at low (500‹C) or high (930 to 1000‹C) temperatures in an oxygen containing atmosphere or electrolytically by making it the anode and passing it through an electrolyte comprising a 1 wt per cent solution of sodium sulphate or sulphonic or phosphonic acids. The oxide layer may be subsequently heated to cause diffusion. The hot dipping pool is heated by radio frequency heating coils 13, wiper rods 12 remove excess tin and an atmosphere an argon is maintained. The tape may be subsequently coated with solder and then laminated with stainless steel or copper which may be coated with solder.
