A method and an apparatus for providing a message using an image are provided to analyze a characteristic of the image, thereby adaptively selecting the number of pixels and insertion bits to be inserted into the message. An insertion capacity calculating unit(420) divides color channels of an image. The insertion capacity calculating unit calculates message insertion capacity of each pixel per each color channel by using a color difference between each pixel and an adjacent pixel and a critical value per the divided color channel. A message insertion unit(440) inserts a message to a color channel of a pixel included in the image according to the calculated message insertion capacity.
