The invention relates to a communication system (1) comprising a communication medium (2) and at least two subscribers (3, 4) connected thereto, wherein the communication system (1) is designed for the transmission of data between the subscribers (3, 4) via the communication medium (2) in communication frames of communication cycles by means of a time-controlled protocol. In order to accelerate the starting of the communication system (1) in the front end of the actual data transmission, it is proposed according to the invention that the communication system (1) has, in at least one of the subscribers (3, 4), for example in the node AB (3a), means for generating at least two different synchronization frames per communication cycle and per channel. The means are formed for example as two separate communication controllers (8, 9) per transmission channel. As an alternative, the means can also be formed as a simple logic circuit, a so-called application-specific standard product (ASSP, 10). It is proposed that the subscriber, for generating the at least two different synchronization frames per communication cycle, is formed as an active star coupler (4) of the communication system (1). The data transmission in the communication system (1) is preferably effected according to the FlexRay protocol.
