PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique achieving more stable processability, improving properties of an obtained flame resistant fiber bundle or carbon fiber bundle, and reducing variation of properties among single fibers in the fiber bundle in the technique for producing the carbon fiber using a solution containing the flame resistant polymer. SOLUTION: The flame resistant polymer fiber bundle is obtained by spinning the flame resistant polymer having a polyacrylonitrile skeleton into fibers, and has a twist of 0.3-30 turns/m. The method for producing the flame resistant fiber bundle includes spinning the flame resistant polymer having the polyacrylonitrile skeleton into the fibers to obtain the flame resistant polymer fiber bundle having a total fineness of 48,000-200,000 dtex per yarn before flame resistant treatment, twisting the obtained fiber bundle at 0.3-30 turns/m and subjecting the resultant fiber bundle to flame resistant treatment.
