The carrier (1) has a holder (3) that may be moved from a holding position (H) to a release position (F) by exerting force in a first direction (R1), such that the material (2) may be removed in a direction (R2) that is substantially opposite to the first direction (R1). The invention further relates to a receiving module (53) for receiving at least one carrier (1) for surgical material (2) that may be connected in a rotatable fashion to a surgical container (38). A further aspect of the invention relates to a bone plate carrier (27) for a bone plate (26) and a holder (20) for a plurality of such bone plate carriers (27). Finally, the invention relates to a surgical container (38) having at least one of the abovementioned elements.
