A remote handset for an air conditioning unit includes a housing with a screen portion, a central pad portion, and a plurality of input pads that are separate from the central pad portion. The central pad portion includes a plurality of input areas that generate control signals for the air conditioning unit. The additional input pads are also used to generate control signals for the air conditioning unit.
