PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device capable of more improving power saving than in a conventional one and having a security protection function as well as a sense of relief and user-friendliness, and to provide a method for limiting utilization of the portable terminal device. SOLUTION: The movement of the portable terminal device 1 is detected from an acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor section 16, and only when the movement of the portable terminal device 1 is detected, the present position is measured. In this way, power saving is achieved, compared to a case where position measurement is regularly executed. If the position data of the present position does not coincide with registered position data, at least some functions of the portable terminal device 1 are limited. Thus, even if the portable device is lost, unauthorized use by a third party can be prevented, and a sense of relief can be obtained. If the position data coincides with the registered data, some functions of the portable terminal device 1 are released from limitation.
