PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding machine capable of preventing the occurrence of carrying failure even if the loading amount of paper loaded on a paper placing plate is in any state from full of paper to little of paper. SOLUTION: A paper feeding device comprises the paper placing plate 6, a pick-up roller 1, a carrying mechanism 2 composed of a paper feeding roller 3 and a handling plate 4 arranged in front of the pick-up roller 1, a detecting means 13 detecting that the uppermost surface of paper P loaded on the paper placing plate 6 exists at a predetermined position, and a stored paper amount grasping means grasping the present amount of the paper P stored on the paper placing plate 6. When the paper is carried, a front end portion of the lowered paper placing plate 6 is raised. When the detecting means 13 detects that the uppermost surface of the paper P loaded on the paper placing plate 6 exists at the predetermined position, rising of the front end portion is stopped. The front end portion of the paper placing plate 6 is lowered by a lowering distance d according to the present amount grasped by the stored paper amount grasping means. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
