PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing hard charcoal, with which a working environment and working efficiency can be improved, and to provide the apparatus thereof. SOLUTION: The apparatus of manufacturing the hard charcoal is configured such that a plurality of pieces of wood 400 are placed on a truck 300, are carried into an oven, the plurality of pieces of wood 400 which are carried in are baked and carbonized at a prescribed temperature in a state that the plurality of pieces of wood 400 are placed on the truck 300 as they are, the carbonized plurality of pieces of wood 400 are further baked at a temperature higher than the prescribed temperature to be turned into the hard charcoal, the hard charcoal 401 is taken out to the outside of the oven together with the truck 300, and the hard charcoal 401 taken out to the outside of the oven is cooled together with the truck 300, wherein the truck 300 is provided with a plurality of pipes 354, 354, ... as air guide members for guiding air which flows in through air holes of a carbonizing chamber so as to uniformly flow among the plurality of pieces of wood 400 placed on the truck 300 by utilizing natural convection, and a porous plate 355 for placing the pieces of wood 400 on the plurality of pipes.
