A method for facilitating assembly and erection of a drilling rig, the drilling rig comprising a structure (11,12) and a mast (20,30), the mast (20,30) comprising at least a first mast section (20,120) and a second mast section (30,130), the method comprising the steps of connecting said first mast section (20,120) to said structure (11,12), the first mast section (20,120) having first connection apparatus (26,27,126,127), moving said second mast section (30,130) adjacent the first mast section (20,120) using a vehicle, the second mast section (30,130) having second connection apparatus (36,37,136,137), and moving the first section (20,120) so that the first connection apparatus (26,27,126,127) contacts the second connecti on apparatus (36,37,136,137) and engages the second connection apparatus to secure the first mast section (20,120) to the second mast section (30,130).
