To provide a printer wherein any type of roll paper, i.e., roll paper rolled on reverse side and roll paper rolled on front side, without increasing the sizes of the apparatus. The printer is provided with a guide roller (14) which guides a medium (1) to be printed on into a housing by abutting against the upside of the medium (1) fed out from a supply shaft (13); a plate portion (22a) on the extension side having a fixing surface (24), which extends from the housing wherein a printing section for printing on the medium (1) is housed, in the downstream side in the carrying direction of the medium (1) such that the fixing surface falls downward as it recedes from the guide roller (14); and a supply shaft supporting member (23) for supporting the supply shaft (13) such that the supply shaft supporting member (23) can be fixed to a plurality of positions at different distance to the guide roller (14) on the fixing surface (24) of the plate portion (22a).
