<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and a control method thereof for more highly accurately analyzing coded information embedded in a document when using an image reader capable of optical magnification. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus for receiving an image from a scanner 0113 capable of optical magnification, includes: an image magnification unit 0260 for digitally magnifying the received image, and an information detection unit 0270 for detecting coded information from the received image. When a scaling factor is not suitable for optical magnification (steps 0907, 1007), the received image is digitally magnified, in place of optical magnification (steps 0909. 1009).
