PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate setting when connecting apparatuses with each other and transmitting and receiving a photographed image file in a camcorder equipped with a storage medium such as a hard disk. SOLUTION: A recording state detection means 108 detects the recording state of a storage medium 107. A communication I.F 112 transmits the information of the recording state to an external apparatus, and also obtains the information of the recording state from the external apparatus. An image/management information transmission/reception selection means 113 analyzes the information of its own recording state and the information of the recording state of the external apparatus, and selects whether to shift a body to the state of transmitting images and management information inside the body to the external apparatus or to shift the body to the state of receiving the images and management information of the external apparatus. An image/management information transmission/reception switching means 114 shifts the body to the state of transmitting the images and the management information or the state of receiving them on the basis of a selected result.
