PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorbing type steering column device capable of reducing rapid change in an impact load even when the impact load is applied to a driver during a secondary collision. SOLUTION: An energy absorbing member 48 is hung between a pair of fixed members 30h fixed to a vehicle body side member and a moving member 32d arranged between the pair of fixed members 30h and fixed to a steering column 28. The energy absorbing member 48 is an endless wire provided with a first plastic deformation part 48a engaged with the moving member 32d, a pair of second plastic deformation parts 48d extended from the first plastic deformation part 48a to the vehicle width direction and engaged with the fixed members 30h, a pair of third plastic deformation parts 48c extended from the pair of second plastic deformation parts 48d toward the front side in the vehicle longitudinal direction and a fourth plastic deformation part 48d extended from front end parts of the pair of third plastic deformation parts 48c to the vehicle width direction and interconnecting the pair of third plastic deformation parts 48c.
