PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide clavulanic acid particles with especially improved gastrointestinal absorption after oral administration, and to provide a method for producing the same and a pharmaceutical composition. SOLUTION: Provided is the clavulanic acid or a salt thereof in which the median of the particles is from 8μm to 35μm. Provided is the process for the production of clavulanic acid comprising a step (a) of isolating clavulanic acid from an organic solvent, and a step (b) of treating the particles obtained in step (a) in a combined drier/mixer until the median of the particles becomes between 8μm and 35μm. Provided is the pharmaceutical composition including the clavulanic acid or it salt particles, in the form of tablets, film-coated tablets, chewing tablets, powders for oral suspensions or dispersible tablets.
