PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the brightness and tone of a specified object area (for instance, the face of a person) within an image corresponding to various photographing conditions without preparing two or more sets of feature histograms and tone curves.

SOLUTION: The image processor comprises: a specified object area detection means 27 for detecting a specified object area from the entire image data; a specified object area luminance histogram calculation means 28 for calculating a histogram relating to the luminance of specified object area image data detected in the specified object area detection means 27 as a specified object area luminance histogram; a tone curve generation means 23 for generating the tone curve from the prescribed luminance histogram; and an image correction means 24 for correcting the image data by the tone curve generated by the tone curve generation means 23 and turning them to output image data.
