PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bug detector and a bug detecting method which easily detect bugs by minimizing an influence on the periphery even in a silent environment. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the bug detector which generates a specific sound and determines whether a received sound is the specific sound generated by itself to detect a bug, and the bug detector incluldes unit which generates the specific sound, and a reception level detection unit 1024 which detects the reception level of a radio wave signal transmitted from the bug and controls the sounding unit based upon a detection result. The reception level detecting unit 1024 compares the reception level with a predetermined threshold to determine whether to generate the specific sound according to the comparison result.
