PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain radiation image information without distortion with simple constitution even if impact is applied to a radiation conversion panel by the entry of the radiation conversion panel into nip rollers. SOLUTION: A first margin section 96 and a second margin section 98 based on the detected results of first to third position detecting sensors 69a, 69b, 69c and first and second vibration sensors 67a, 67b are set to the front end and rear end of an accumulative phosphor panel P. Reading of the first margin section 96 and the second margin section 98 by a scanning unit 66 is stopped, while carrying out reading of a radiation image by the scanning unit 66 in a reading range of the accumulative phosphor panel P other than the first and second margin sections 96, 98.
