PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce drying time by inhibiting an excessive drop of the temperature of an evaporator while drying clothes at low ambient temperatures and retaining moisture absorbability by inhibiting frost formation in the evaporator. SOLUTION: A temperature sensor 30 is provided at the evaporator 21 constituting a heat pump device, and the performance of a blower 11 for circulation and a compressor 31 is synchronously varied by the temperature sensor 30 for a prescribed time at low ambient temperature. By inhibiting sudden temperature drop in the evaporator 21, frost formation and freezing in the evaporator 21 is prevented, and by increasing the temperature of the evaporator 21, the drying time can be reduced.
