A backlight device (12) includes: a chassis (14); a cold cathode tube (17) arranged in the chassis (14); a lamp clip (18) which has a body unit (27) attached to the chassis (14)and a lamp holding unit (28) arranged in the body unit (27) for holding the cold cathode tube (17); and a reflection sheet (23) arranged in the chassis (14). The reflection sheet (23) has an opening (41) through which the lamp holding unit (28) can pass. The inner brim portion of the opening (41) covers the outer brim portion of the body unit (27).
