METHOD FOR PREPARING NANOSTRUCTURED CARBIDES

The invention relates to a method for preparing a nanostructured carbide of a transition metal from groups (IV), (V) and (Vl), comprising the following steps: (a) preparation of a solution of a salt of the transition metal; (b) lyophilisation of the solution prepared in step (a) in order to obtain a solid precursor; and (c) heat treatment of said solid precursor in the presence of a carburising gaseous mixture. Said method can be used to obtain metal carbides having a nanometer particle size, which can be used advantageously in the preparation of cemented carbides which, in turn, are used to prepare parts for tools, machinery components and moulds, as well as to produce protective coatings for other materials that are subjected to severe wear, corrosion or temperature conditions.
